Heritage Projects
A key part of our work with the National Lottery Heritage Project has been to open up St John’s to the wider community. One way of introducing the wider community to St John’s has been through a range of Heritage Projects. The first of these is the photography project with St Cuthbert’s High School students and others will follow.

Below you will see a selection of photographs taken by twelve young photographers from St Cuthbert’s RC High School.

The year 9 students were selected by the school to work in two groups of six with a professional photographer, Robert Freeman, for three day sessions. The students were equipped with cameras – not mobile phone cameras – and taught the essentials of photography in session one, guided in the art of taking interesting photographs at St John’s in session two and taught editing skills in session three.

The culmination of the project was an exhibition of the students’ work at St Cuthbert’s for all fellow students and staff to see and an exhibition in the narthex at St John’s that has already been viewed by hundreds of visitors and parishioners.

The project was so popular that we plan to repeat it with the new year 9 students in the new school year.
