Planned Maintenance Work at St John’s

The NLHF funded work to repair the dome and the mosaic of St. John’s finished in May last year. Since that time we have experienced a few issues; the damp has been soaking through the concrete as was expected, there have been a couple of leaks when we had heavy wind and rain, and salts have been appearing on the mosaic, again as was expected, as the building is still drying out. As a result of this drying process, the paintwork has become spoilt in places.

As agreed in the original contract of works, the contractors are returning in May this year to fix what snags they can and to repaint sections of the building. To achieve this, the church will have to be closed from the 6th to the 24th May; this means there will be no Sunday or weekday Masses in the church during this period. For the two Sundays where we are unable to have Mass in the church, Fr. Michael will be celebrating Mass in St John’s Primary School hall.

The schedule is as follows:

Sunday 5th May – Mass as normal

Monday 6th May – church closes

Sunday 12th May – Mass in school hall

Sunday 19th May – Mass in school hall

Sunday 26th May – church reopens, Mass as normal

Public Living Room @ St John’s

St. John’s, in association with Camerados, have created a Public Living Room within the body of the church. Organisations across the country have created a warm, safe and furnished space in which people can sit and talk, read books, play board games, or find a place of quiet for themselves: This is especially important when social isolation is so prevalent in our society.

The room is open whenever the church is open, for services and other events, and is free of charge to use – donations welcome, of course!
